This spalted maple wood bowl was made from some cut-offs from a neighbor's tree with a beautiful spalted pattern.

I am not certain what specific species of maple this tree was.  I only remember it throwing "helicopter" seeds in the Autumn.

The center of the tree was left in this bowl.  That means that it had some checking and splitting happening, radiating from the center pith.  All splits and checks were filled in with CA glue and should remain stable for many, many years.

This bowl is 9 inches wide, 4.5 inches tall and 4.25 inches deep.  It would make a perfect fruit bowl.

The piece is signed by the artist on the bottom with pyography and finished in Dr. Ray's Genuine Bee Oil, a completely food-safe mixture of beeswax and mineral oil.
